The first project that we had in spanish was the Loteria project. In which we would customize our own loteria card (a game we play in class). We would each represent a different "square" in the loteria card, where we make the design relating to us. The project itself is very centered towards ourselves, You do these,
Pick a noun that represents you
Create a mosaic that artistically represents that noun
Glue as many labels/words as you can that describe who you are
SECOND PART - The next thing after creating the artwork would have to be creating the speech in full SPANISH that would describe us basically and describe our card.
My Project: My project was the card labeled "LA MUSICA", or "THE MUSICIAN". I picked musician because I play cello and piano and enjoy writing songs/exploring different types of music. I felt this best represented me and I decided to create an art piece with a piano surrounding a cello. I cut many magazines to create the mosaic effect.
Improvements?
Of course we had a rough draft before turning in a final one. In which it was handrawn and colored, for others in the class to critique the general idea. I got a lot of positive feedback on mine, and so I kept my idea and design. We had to make sure our design simply displayed our noun and that it was creative.
With my speech, it was the one that got the most feedback and editing. Spanish was harder for me to master, and so I got a lot of help from my friends and Mr. H. I was able to piece together sentences and slowly began to memorize them. I even got my friend Daniella to critique the script on google docs.
Reflection: I honestly found this project a challenge. It was a very long going challenge, for it kind of went on for a month. Everyone around me was stressed and I became worried for it as well. We were all overwhelmed at the fact that it was a full spanish conversation. Not only was the mosaic difficult to make and took long, we had to worry about basically memorizing a full speech in spanish that'd we'd present in front of everyone. I was challenged both artistically, in my time management, and in spanish. I did a lot of work with it at home and several times asked helped from other spanish speakers or Mr. H. I got to slowly piece together a script, that I later memorized. It was difficult and I practiced a lot, pacing around my house with my script, trying to memorize the whole thing. I was able to finish everything on time. But I was absent for a week due to my wisdom tooth surgery, which set me back since I had a hard time speaking with it hurting, but at the same time gave me more time to prepare. I was able to come back the next week and present in front of everyone. It was really scary since everyone went already. But I was able to do it. I was proud of myself for learning all the spanish and somewhat memorizing it. I was happy to hear people saying my accent wasn't too bad.
Future? If I were to do this again, I'd redo the speech and would probably be more bold and confident. I feel like I was hesitant and that I looked down at my card too much. I want to improve on this.
